The trade of development had showed the demand is high and increasing on the safety and quality products from the bargaining power of buyers and consumers. Therefore, Malaysia government regulated the products which import to Malaysia constantly, the supplier will be needed to apply for the product certificate. In 1998, Malaysia promulgated Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 at telecommunication services and telecommunication market for admittance’s rules and regulation of standard procedure.
SIRIM has been the government's mandated machinery for research and technology development, and the national champion of quality, SIRIM is the only one Certification authority in Malaysia. Any electronic products that wanted to bring into Malaysia's Market, need to apply for SIRIM Certificate. In principle, the applicant should be local institutions in Malaysia. The SIRIM certificate is issue by SIRIM QAS International.
Type approval content for Situation Assessment Report, Laboratory testing, Field test, If the equipment is only used for exhibition demonstration etc., can apply to the Communication and Multimedia Commission CMC, by the evaluation directly through written reports to obtain special certification.
In 2009, SIRIM has make some clause changes on the certificate process, the main content of clause changes is as follows:-
1) Yearly review of SIRIM certification, and the longest validation for a maximum 5 years.
2) The examining report of submission is acceptable only if the quality laboratory examining report’s date of issues is not more than 5 years.
Approved by SIRIM has more than 5 years equipment, If still need to sell on the market in Malaysia, It must be returned to the laboratory for testing and re submit their application for SIRIM, the original SIRIM certificate will expire.
In Malaysia SIRIM certification application process, you can by submitting a CB report and the certificate of approval to convert SIRIM, in this situation, usually the applicant is not neccessary to re submit the sampling items for examining again, but SIRIM has the right to require customers to send samples and verify the contain of the materials is exactly the same with the report.
3) When every process is done, and after the authentication approved, manufacturers can obtained SIRIM Certificate, and affixed SIRIM certification mark on their products.
